This includes conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia, lung cancer, and tuberculosis, among others. Pulmonologists are medical doctors who specialize in the respiratory system and have specialized training in diagnosing and treating respiratory conditions. They work closely with other healthcare professionals, including primary care physicians, radiologists, and respiratory therapists, to provide comprehensive care for patients with lung and respiratory problems. Some of the diagnostic tests used in pulmonary medicine include spirometry, which measures lung function, chest X-rays and CT scans, which provide detailed images of the lungs, and bronchoscopy, which involves inserting a flexible tube with a camera into the lungs to examine the airways.
